700R4 Is stock ok?

I am building my 49 F-1 with a 350 340hp crate motor thru a 700R4 to a 3.70 9 inch rear. I am beyond the street racing days and want smooth power. Mileage matters and I will definitely want the lockup feature. Will my stock 700r4 do the job? If not, what do I need to do or should I do to the trans and converter. My 700R4 came out of an 89 2wd suburban.

it should be ok if your not beating on it. If it has the beast sunshell in it, it will be much more reliable but for what you want it will hold up

A quality rebuild and inspection of parts will work for you. These trans ran for thousands of miles in light duty applications.

Thank you both for your responses, I thought that a rebuilt stock 700r4 should meet my needs. It is one of the late ones that should have the better parts. Most posts talk about valve body changes, high stall converters, etc, etc. My sense was that I probably didn't need those changes.
