700r4 stuck in 1st

if you have access to a 0-300 psi gauge you should go to mainline tap, above manual linkage, read pressure in park should be about 70 psi with stock pressure regulator spring,if it is up around 90-95 psi suspect stuck tv valve in valve body, quick test, saves you the hassle of pulling gov.also if it is stuck and you pull the pan,to pull the valve body should be very little debris in pan,or dont bother pulling vb,the valve will stick again.if pan is clean,i will give you good advice on how to keep tv valve from sticking, hope this helps

700-r4 stuck in 1st gr

this trans used to be trans shops bread and butter.but 10 to 20% of these units would have problems with sticking tv valves after rebuild.10 years ago i started installing transgo jr shift kit in each one,no more problems.they have redesigned tv valve that will not stick, also cleaning the plunger wont do it the tv valve is deeper inside the vb,cant come out because of roll pin accessible only when vb is down.i think its time to say hi to jr.

700r-4 stuck in 1st

if you dont want to spring for the kit,we used to drill the tv balance hole in the shift plate, small hole over top of tv valve,we drilled it to .063 this works most times.why this works?well its a hydraulic thing, but it does work.if you need me to fax you a picture of the plate with hole location i will be glad to

thanks for your help ! i dont have a fax here .i intend on using a little contact cleaner on the plungers and some compressed air. before i remove the vb i am going to put the gov and pan back on and try the "20-30 mph / goose the pedal" trick the raptor site talks about . if that doesnt work , well i gess the next step is the vb. i have the factory service manual for my 87 z-28 and maybe i can locate that hole from those diagrams. will post later, and again, thanks for your input !

after checking my records, i put a "transgo shift fixer" (?) kit in this vehicle about 29,000 miles ago,i kept all the old parts. it has mostly hiway miles on it and i gave this truck to my nephew 1.5 years ago, he drives it only locally. pretty sure he doesnt 'romp' on it.
