700r4 Tail Shaft fit a t-350 ?
Will the tail shaft of a 700R4 fit on a turbo 350?
I have a burnt up 700R4, I just picked up a rebuilt 350 and the 350's tail shaft is aprox 6" long - the 700 I am pulling out has an aprox 7" shaft. I am guessing this will make my drive shaft 1" short now. Can I pull the tail shaft of the 700 and put it on the 350?? Shawn Santee, SC |
hi there, nope, different, and besides you would have to totally completely gut the trannies to swap the shafts as they go into the case very first thing
its pretty easy to cut and weld the driveshaft if it needs to be a little shorter. no big deal. i do my own and am doing another one right now 3" shorter than original so i can put a th350 9" out in favor of a 3L80HD the 6" tail th350 is 3" shorter than the 700r4 th350 9" tail is the same as 700r4 you have three options find a driveshaft in the junkyard cut and shorten your driveshaft 3" get a 2004r and put that in because it is same as 6" th350 and will give you overdrive like 700r4 find them in the G bodies 1980's years(elky, monte, cutlass, regal, etc) and in a few years of the late '80's caprices, but uncommon. hope any of this helps good luck |
Thanks for the quik reply.
Actually I am going from the 700 to the 350 so my driveshaft will be a bit short. Guess the best thing is to put the rebuilt 350 in then measure up for a new shaft. Shawn Santee, SC |

if you would just get a 9" tail th350 or have a 9" tailshaft put in the th350 and find a 9" tailshaft housing then you wouldnt have to mod the driveshaft
9" shaft th350 were in the 73-up trucks and most station wagons and in some vans |
