700r4 for the texas mile??

Last year I took the grocery getter through the traps at 133 and change but I was on the rev limiter on each shift and through the traps. The next pass I short shifted a little and didn't hit the rev limiter but unfortunately, the engine lit go BIG. Nothing to save but the accesories and the intake plenum
OK. So here's this year's set up
LT4 top end and hot cam.
Scat 383 kit.
2 quart accumulator and 7 quart oil pan.
700r4 with 700 2-3 Transgo kit.
373 rear gears
26" tires.
My calculations tell me that I need to be at 6000-6200 rpm in 4th gear with the converter locked to reach my goal of 150mph

My real question is, If I convert to Full Manual, when I shift to drive will the trans go into and STAY in 4th, no matter what??

Thanks

With a Full Manual VB it shouldn't downshift out of 4th.
I'd check with the VB Maker to be sure tho'.

the trans should stay in 4th gear with manual valve body.

I would be more concerned with the drive shaft RPM . In overdrive (4th) , the shaft speed will be near 8k RPM

Drive shafts can spin at 8k rpm, depending on diameter, weight , other items.

Make sure you have a few drive shaft loops or drive shaft tube

Aluminum Drive Shaft

Thanks, Crosley.
I had a new 3" aluminum drive shaft built for that very reason. I don't remember what the length is but there was some margin of safety before reaching the critical speed of the shaft.
I haven't put any DS loops in, but it's on my list of Things To Do.

the 700r4 has some internal issue around and above 7k rpms, most of these can be solved with a boost valve and some other simple mods.

to keep the 700r4 in 4th at wot u do not need a full manual valve body.
ill have to find u the link but u can mod the stock valve body for a few bucks to hold 4th at wot

th big question is will the 4thgear clutch pack hold the power u are making???

might be better off going with a 4l80e and doing a full manual valve body so u dont need an ecm to run it

I rebuilt the trans last year and put all the "good stuf" in it with a kit from ProBuilt Automatics. Part of the kit included set screws that you put in the "downshift" valve. It was supposed to enable 4th WOT operation but it worked out to be about 90% throttle. Otherwise, you'd have a hard time driving on the road because it would never downshift until you slowed down. At least that's how I read it.
Since the kit and mods weren't doing what I wanted them to do I then installed a Transgo 2-3 kit because I thought that would do it. No luck. Now it cruises in third then upshifts if you give it some throttle then it downshifts again. Weird, hunh?. Anyway, I have all the parts from the 2-3 kit to change the VB to manual for the Mile and another VB to change back to for normal driving.
Eventually, I will go to a 4l60e with a stand alone controller but for right now my goals are pretty short term.
Go as fast as I can at the Mile then take the time to make it street friendly again.
Then, if possible, build a purpose built car for The Texas Mile that I can occasionally take out for fun.

Thanks in advance,
Grogetter.

Looks like the TransGo 2-3 Kit Holds 1st, 2nd and 3rd at any rpm but, not 4th.

The 7-4-V Kit fixes the 4th @WOT shift: For 82-88 models.
TransGo | THM 700R4, 4L60: 7-4-V

2-3 Kit:
TransGo | THM 700R4, 4L60: 700-2&3
