700R4 or TH350?
Ok so I am doing a project. Moderatly built sbc being dropped into a mid-late 80's S-10 blazer.
I have access to both a TH350 and a 700R4 transmission, both of which need rebuilding. Usage would be a fun street car with occasional strip use. I am leaning to the 700R4 but would the 350 be a better choice? |

i would probly go for the th700 as it should have a lower 1st , which will make it a bit quicker of the line & with a 4th gear it will still have a good crusing speed on the highway

Can't go wrong with a 350
It all depends on how much drag strip action and/or highway driving the truck sees. The 350 is way cheaper to build and durable as hell when done right. You know what you're going to do with it and what you want to spend. I've driven for 1000s of miles with moderate street gears and stalls in 350s and have no problems. I just don't have the patience to build a 700 and go through all the de-bugging details right now. When I do , I'll have a better grip on if it is worth all the trouble. I know several that love them and several that hate them. It's all in the set-up. Good luck.

For about $500 total in parts and upgrades I'm building a 4L60E (which is simply an electronic 700R4) that will easily handle the 500 lb-ft of torque that my LT1 makes. They can be built to withstand more than that too. This is for a 3400 lb. car with a 3000 stall converter.

I've replaced several 350's with 700R's. I'm going to do it next in my 56 210 2 dr sedan. I'm not even going to put a 350 in my 47, going straight to a 700R. My tranny guy sets them up for me for flawless performance....I just have to tell him the usage and he takes care of the rest.
