I have a 1986 GMC K1500 4x4 pickup. it has a 305 and a 700r4 tranny. I might put a 383 with 380 hp in it. The 700r4 in it is very tired and I have a th350 in my garage. The th350 is built to withstand 1000 hp. I am going to put it in but before I start I need to make sure the tranny can fit in my truck. Anyone that can help me please do, I have some expierence but I do not know the specs on this subject.

it is not a direct bolt in replacement


there was a kit around with a spacer and cut down 6 inch 2wd output shaft to install a t-350 in place of a 700 tranny.

Yes,


that is the kit I talking about.

A t-350 will NOT bolt directly in place of a 700/4L60 tranny in a 4x4 application


With the mentioned kit.... your drive shafts and cross members can remain in same installed place.

I installed many of these kits back in the mid & late 1980's when we removed more 700 trannys that we rebuilt.

well he never did say if the th350 is a 4x2 one or a 4x4 one

its a simple swap if its a 4x4 one both are 27 splines and everything, very easy, dont need any retrofit stuff

Your information is incorrect.

A 4x4 t-350 tranny will not bolt directly in place of a t-700 4x4 tranny.

The main cases are different lengths , the drive shafts and cross members would need attention.

The length of the 4x4 output shafts that extend past the rear edge of the tranny case are different from a t-700 & t-350.... which requires a different design on the t/case adapter
