700r4 tranny question

I have a 85 silverado I believe it came with a 262ci. I have put in a early 70's 350ci. The tranny that was in there was a 700r4 i want to keep this tranny in there and i am wondering if there is any vacum lines or electrics i have to hook up? I am not sure if it had any of this because the truck was gutted when i got it.Can i just bolt it in and hook up the linkage? I think there is a 4 wire plug on the tranny if i plug it in with out the motor having any of the vacum or electrics on it will this even do me any good? I'm a rooky at this so talking me thru it would be apreciated.

No vacuum to this trans, are you using the computer that came with this truck?

No i dont think i will need to since the motor is carburated. All i want to do is run it like the good ole computer free days. Is this going to be ok ?

700r4 tranny problem

Right now Crosley,airworld2 and myself are tossing around different methods for obtaining lockup, check 2004r posts, see if any of that stuff makes sense. If not post back.

I read the 200r4 post. What i got out of that is there is a 4 prong wire plug which i have seen in my engine bay. Giving the a pod 12v power will lock up the tranny when ever you flip the switch. could i have a few examples of what this would be a good idea for? and do i plug in the 4 prong switch from engine bay to tranny and splice into it?

700r4 tranny problem

You can see by the post from airworld2 you need power to [A] wire and ground to [D] wire.your not using the computer so you can't just plug in 4 prong connector, you must supply power and ground, again airworld2 post.I never liked the idea of a switch you can flip to bring lockup on.When the 1-2 shift valve strokes it supplies fluid to allow lockup, thats how some of these units could actually go into lockup in 2nd gear, and every gear after that for that matter.Airworld2 outlines an easy method for lockup,In addition if you want you could run in series, with your 12 v,a low vacuum switch,so if you romp on it the converter will unlock, low vacuum, open circut,no power to [A] WIRE.power returns when vacuum is restored,Crosley outlines yet another method, which may be, by your own admission, not within your capabilities.Hope this helps.
