Hi Hot Rodders
I just purchased a 1984 Corvette, it is decent shape but needs some tlc and on my first joy ride in it I took off and got up to about 55 MPH and the transmission quit pulling, if I put it in any forward gear it does nothing, but if I put it in reverse it will move but acts as though the brakes are locked up. Any ideas what be transpiring?

Fluid brown and burnt smelling?

Forward clutch fried. (no fwd. movement)

Binding in reverse is probably from the steels in the fwd. clutch being severely warped and not releasing fully.

If the fluid is bad- time for an overhaul.

Thanks for the input on my problem, that is what I was thinking but I guess I wanted to hear it from someone else before I pulled it and sent it off to get rebuilt.
