700R4 Won't Shift Out of First

Hello, my father and I recently rebuilt a 700R4 for his 84 GMC Jimmy. I feel as though everything went well during the rebuild and was very careful in replacing every component in its respective location. The only problem I ran into was the check balls...when we removed the valve body three check balls fell out and we were not able to note their location. My solution to this was to look at B&M's shift improver kits instructions and replaced the check balls as per the stock setup in the instructions. The problem that I have is that the transmission will shift very nicely into first gear and reverse but it wont shift into second or any other gear. The unit that we rebuilt only had about 5000 miles on it...it had the 3-4 clutches burned up I suppose because of improper TV adjustment. Also, the engine on the Jimmy is a 6.2 diesel so we’ve been reluctant to rev it up very high to see if the transmission will shift. I would greatly appreciate any advice or information in solving this problem. Thank You.

Are you using the governor from the diesel trans? Some TV adjustments may also be needed.

Hey C-10, thanks for the response. I am using a governor that was on an original diesel 700R4 and have tried adjusting the TV. My best guess is that the TV is stuck or there is something wrong with the governor. I'll have some time to dig into it this weekend. Does anyone know how much pressure should vary as you pull the TV cable while the engine is idling....I think I will try this before dropping the oil pan and physically inspecting the TV to see if it is stuck. I figure that if it is stuck there won't be any pressure variance as I manually pull out the cable at idle.
