It was almost like Ma Mopar 'favored' Dodge as their performance arm of the company. Maybe more funding...
My father always liked Pontiacs from WAY back, as well as Mopars, but we ended up w/more Chrysler 'family' cars than either Dodge or Plymouth- although we had a cherry '35 Plymouth coupe, all original. |

Dont know about the US, but the Valiant line was not a Plymouth here for a few years.....up to 64-65, I think......and, actually, I think the first year of Barracuda was a Valiant, not a Plymouth......I am sure a MOPAR guy will come and state what was what.

Sure 'nuff- the Valiant was marketed as a separate marque, alongside Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto and Imperial, etc. More HERE.

Originally the Dodge Dart was a full size Dodge, and was called the "Pioneer Dart". Friend of mine had one back in hi school and I was shocked to see the name on it because it was such a huge car.

Bill those were the good old days, I was at the 1960 Nationals at Detroit Dragway, run D/Gas back then, my wife worked the hot dog stand and I had our daughter in a baby buggy walking around the pits, when I made a run my wife would take a break and watch our daughter, I went out 1st or second round & got to enjoy the rest of the Nationals. I recall I think one of the Ramchargers running C/Gas in a 53 Dodge getting injured when a flywheel or cluth let go. Those were the 180 degree shield days.

There were a couple of 'cheese crates' here. I do remember them being trailered after they found that the cars bent the frames from the lightening holes. They also had scissors jacks to support the frames on the trailers.
A friend had a couple of Pontiacs of the vintage but not 'cheese crates'. He had a good connection at the Pontiac headquarters. He still has some of the original rare factory stuff. Says he plans on taking it to the grave with him. In a 100 years thay can dig him up and see if it is still there. |

I'll guess it's shoehorned into an early "A"-body. |

I can't remember myself. I'll have to go back and visit charlie again as I took the pic last summer and he doesn't work on his car's in the winter. Charlie is another hoarder and has an old warehouse full of classic Mopars he won't sell either. Right now he's working on his latest project, a 35 Chrysler.
