71 Chevy 3/4 ton Locker

I have been trying to find a locker for an Eaton H072 rear axle under a 71 Chevy 3/4 ton. Does anybody know where I may be able to find such a unit?

No one make a locker for the Eaton anymore. You will have to find a used one since some 67-72 trucks came factory equipped with the Detroit Locker. Best try the junkyards or e-bay.

That isnt surprising given how old those axles are.

It may be cheaper for you to find a 10.5" 14-bolt rearend and do a rear axle swap instead of trying to find that 17-spline Eaton Detroit Locker. Even though the ring gear will be smaller, the axle spline count on the axles will hold more horsepower than then the Eaton and is much cheaper to build plus will have much more axle ratio's ratios available and the disc brake availibility is much easier and a lot cheaper. Good luck in whatever you decide.

It's my friends truck. He wants to keep the axle just because they arent very common. Didnt know those were 17 spline axles, they must be some monster splines. Do you know the ring gear diameter on the H072s and the axle diameters?

They have 12 1/4" ring gears and 1.55-diameter axle shafts. There were only two ratios of gears offered: 4.57 and 5.14.
