71 Ford F-100

I have a 71 Ford F-100 with a 360 engine that when you start it first thing it idles real strong but once you drive it around a bit it seems the idle speed goes way down and its like you have to put one foot on the gas and one on the break when you are at a stop light. Is this a simple carb adjustment or do I have to go get a timing light and adjust?

Start by backing the idle adjustment screws on the front of the carb out a little. But first, count how many turns it takes to screw the idle adjustment screws snug, never tight, and write it down. That way you can return it to the way it was set pre-tinkering. Try 1/4 turn adjustments and see if you can get it to smooth out. If not you may have a fuel pressure issue. Start with replacing the filter (spelled cheap, easy, and never done too much). If that doesnt help, check your fuel pressure with a cheapy gauge from any parts store. Your looking for around 6 psi. If its low, the pump may be bad. What kind of carb?
