71 GMC Sprint SP400, 69 Yenko Nova
What's up! My name is Cash from Torrance California.
My first car was a 68 Camaro Matador Red with Rally Wheels, 327ci, AC, buckets and fold down rear seat. I would love to have it back if anyone has any tricks to looking 'em up. The CA blackplates were WVK656 if anyone runs into it(hopefully not literally).
Now, nearly twenty years later I'm still a big fan of 67-69 Chevys and have owned both a 67 Chevelle and El Camino, 69 El Camino, and now a 71 GMC Sprint SP400.
Most of my projects ended early when the money ran out but I always sold them for more than I had into them and had fun getting them together.
I have to admit when i was younger I didn't always do things right or have the proper tools, but I was still determined and got 'em running and looking good the best I knew how.
It's been a long time since I shoved a pizza box in a quarter panel and bondo'd the crap out of it. I'm looking to do my restorations right, with GM parts when possible and NOS sheetmetal. Problem is this is pricey and dicey since a lot of competition has come up over parts due to high selling prices at auctions like Barrett Jackson (do I dare mention?).
Dicey since many Ebay parts are word of mouth and rarely live up to the claims. Poor packing and rough handling during shipping is another way you end up screwed while you try to untwist that NOS fender or radiator support you just payed hundreds of dollars for.
I prefer the local swapmeets, and since I'm in So Cal I guess I'm lucky to be close to so many resources. I guess I don't have much excuse buying online at all.
I live across the street from Edelbrock and there are several shops down the road from here that turn out some of the nice rods you see in the magazines all the time.
My current projects are a factory correct 69 Nova 427 Yenko (not a real Yenko but with a real 69 '512' block and muncie, posi, torq thrust wheels, etc...
The other is a 71 GMC Sprint SP400 original 402, TH400, Factory gauges/clock, AC, stereo dash, bubble hood, fpdb, factory tint and windshield antenna, originally "Metallic Mustard" also known as Placer Gold, black interior, bench, tilt column shift, SS factory wheels.
I never thought I'd end up with this thing but my research online showed it was pretty rare and I did find a partial build sheet under the tank.
After looking at it for the last year it's kinda grown on me. I call it 'Darth Vader' cause if he was ever a car this would be it. It's all black and mean with all the emblems shaved and recessed door handles by the PO.
So....now comes the coughing up money part until I crack and sell it for another project and start the cycle over again!
I really do like custom better since I hate having the pressure of every tiny screw and washer being right. I get great ideas when looking at stock cars and would like to try them out someday.
Like many of you I've walked away from some smoking deals and I've also bought turds that make your stomach flop when you see the rust and rot for the first time or rip out that 2x4 holding down that ratchet shifter leaving you stuck in first gear all the way home!
My dream car is a tricked out 68 Camaro just like a 1:18 toy that I own from Jada. Something about it just makes me go "F-yeah!" and want the real thing. My brother is a custom shop owner in AZ JnF Kustomz but he doesn't give me any breaks.
I have been into PC tech and laptops, computer graphics, and a twenty year veteran of the guitar.
I have stacks of small touch screen computers I picked up years ago if anyone wants an easy way to put a PC in your ride for MP3's, WiFi or ?
I'll see about doing a demo if I can make the time.
That's pretty much it! I do feel kinda dirty like I just placed a personal ad....
Wha?
