I have a 71 Grand Prix. I had the 8.2 ten bolt. I found an 8.5 out of a cutlass, and rebuilt it with 3.73's and a posi. put it into the car and the old drive shaft does not fit. I did not realize the 8.5's are 1" longer than the 8.2's... grrr stock driveshaft is 55.5" center of ujoint to center of ujoint. Does anyone know a car that came with a smaller driveshaft? I have a TH400 and 8.5 rear and need around 54" driveshaft. Any help is appreciated. THanks
Maybe you should think of having one made ?? You have beefed-up everything else in the driveline (TH-400, 8.5" rear, probably engine?) and you want to trust a stock POS driveshaft ?? I've been more than pleased by Denny's Driveshaft www.dennysdriveshaft.com but there are many good companies.
ya thinking of it.. i really have not beefed much up.. engine is mostly stock with a slight cam, trans was just replaced cause the old one was slipping. and new rear end cause it was cheaper to get a posi and gears for the 8.5 that try and find everything for an 8.2
I dont drag race or anything so not worried too much about that..
ya I think that is what I will have to do.. thanks...
