72 c20 couple of problems i believe is the tranny.

It's got a 402 and the guy said its a th400 but its a manual, so I don't know what it is. Sorry never done work on the tranny. The truck grinds in first and reverse. Also, feels
like lack of power when giving it gas. I believe that the carberator needs to be adjusted. There's an exhaust leak could that effect the power problem? Please help me I'm running in circles. Also, when running the truck to about 3500 rpm it starts to make a winding noise any clues?

It is likely a Muncie SM465. The grinding could be a clutch issue, not fully disengaging when the clutch pedal is depressed. It may be due to be replaced, There is a chance the clutch could be related to the lack of power issue also, it (the clutch) may be slipping.
You may be due for a complete tune up, points, plugs, cap & rotor, wires, maybe a carb rebuild.
The "winding" noise is probably the rear end gear, with the truck being a 20 series with a manual trans. It could be in the 4.xx:1 area.
