72 Chevelle? I must be crazy!

I was out driving on some very back roads today and I saw what I believe to be a 1972 Chevelle for sale by the side of the road. $800! I don't really know what kind of shape. I am scared to go back and look. I have a spare 350ci & TH350 just waiting for a donor. I am trying to buy a house right now but maybe I could turn this thing over for a quick profit... I don't know what to do... I don't really know much about the Chevelles value. What do you guys think?

Don't know about your area, but around here a clean and complete drivable 72 with a 350/350 would easily bring $3500.
I used to pay $800 for them 25 years ago.

Hmm This one looked hardly clean but I payed $3000 for my 67 camaro that was in similar shape. I just don't know if the Chevelles are as valuable..

Any short track racer would give you $800 for the lower control arms, center link, spindles, and front stub.

Ok it is in much worse shape than I thought! $800 for this one and a 1970s model. $800 for both seems reasonable, just not what I need right now.

I know of someone needing the front stub. I'll Pm the info if you are interested in making it a turn around.

Hmm.? You gave me an idea. Maybe I could just by the sub frames from the guy and I could blast them and paint them and sell them ... My luck while blasting I would find a huge crack!

Chevelles don't have "SUB" frames, they are a full frame to the back car.

You can get $300 to $500 for them bare and ready to build. Cracks don't really matter. You can weld them up as long as the frames are straight. Unless it's in the steering box section. Most racers weld washers arounf the bolt holes to strenght the left front frame horn.

62-67, 68-72, 73-77 Chevelles, 68-72 nova, and 76 to 88 metric frames like Monte, Cutless, Regal, Malibu, and others. Even the Ford Thunder Bird and Torinos work well. I'm missing a bunch others too. Try to get the cars to far trashed for restoration.

Oh they have a full frame. Why the heck do the call it a (front stub)? Well thats a good point to try and use cars that are to far gone for resto. I would feel bad killing a restore-able muscle car. If I did not have my camaro to work on I would snatch them up.

'cause when they cut it in two, it's just a stub of a frame.

Nobody said racers were smart either.

We spends thousands of dollars to race back to where we started from(flag stand) over and over and over.

Other frames that work well are:

Early camaro (67-69)and nova (are the same)
Otherwise the complete Chevelle deal which is considered the a-body car which is 1964-72 Buick Skylark, Special, Gran Sport, Sport Wagon also Chevelle , El Camino, Malibu, Monte Carlo then also the same as, Olds F-85, Cutlass and 442 as well as Pontiac GTO, T37 and the 1968-72 Grand Prix and Lemans.

Then theres the metric cars , the Nova lowers and Early Camaro lower fit them as well as the Ford Crown Victoria Lower arm which will widen the front track but require diff ball joints to attach to metric or pinto spindles.

Then theres the big car group which is the big Pontiacs and Chevrolets like the big Grand Prix and the larger body styles like from 1972-1982
and they also use (if i am not mistaken) the 1970-1980 camaro and firebird lowers.

The mounting points on the early chevelle lowers outside of a arm to outside of a arm are like 14-1/2" on the big car stuff they are like 15"
and on the Metric, Nova and LTD ford they are like 14-1/4"

If a guy was to move his back mount on the frame then he could make it fit whatever he wants..........if a guy wanted to that is.
