72 chevelle ss dash tach wiring

Hi all
A friend of mine just converted his dash from the stock sweep style to the SS dash with a complete kit with harness and cluster and the tach does not work. power and grounds seem ok, the tach jumps a bit when the key is turned to on position. what I need to know is what color is the tach signal wire and also will this tach(stock GM) work with the tach output from an MSD box.

Thanks

If the original cluster didnt have a tach there might not be a tach feed to th

If you have the pos and neg correct the tach should return to 0 when the key is switched on.

you may have to run a tach feed from your MSD box (or the cap on your HEI)

I went thru this same thing on my camaro when I converted to a Z28 cluster.......lots of changing pins in the connector, but only had to run 2 new wires.

You may also require a filter. MSD sells two different ones, and many GM cars with factory tachs used a factory filter in-line on the trigger circuit.

The color of the wire for your tach is a brown one. For more information on this subject go to www.chevelles.com and go to the electrical section. You'll find a lot of info there.
