Hello. I've been looking for some information for some time on columns on this site and all over the web, but have failed to come up with a good answers.

What I have now is a 72 chevelle column shift, without tilt. What I would like to change to is a floor shift, tilt column. I have had no luck finding one from another a body. Also the price for a aftermarket column is to much for me. What I would like to know is what to look for in a donor column. I only need signal, hazard, and ing switch. Is there any difference in columns over the years ? Or any other tips or tricks that could be passed on would help.

I wanted to go the other way ...
I had a straight shift 3 speed column with no tilt and I wanted tilt with automatic on the column. My 70 Chevelle ... and I used one from a 71 Buick Skylark ...

I believe 68 to 72 Chevelle, Lemans, Cutlass and Skylark are all close enough to work.

I would get the shifter in the floor working OK and then concentrate on a column ... I see them on eBay a good bit.

Yeah have a b&m quicksilver shifter and have been using it for about 2 years with out a problem. I have built a console that holds my temp, volts and oil pressure gauges that hides away and under the arm rest I have put in a CD player so i can keep the dash close to original and not cut it all up.

This little idea all came about last night when I was driving around. I have a small 10" wheel and I don't like the look, and I don't like the feel so I went looking for a more original looking wheel that i like. While doing that today i noticed how many till columns there are in the junkyard and started wondering how hard it would be to put one in. What i'm thinking of doing is getting one with tilt and i would have to change the electrical bit over, but what about the rest? Like the mounting points and other stuff?
