72 Chevy Hood

I had a little accident with my truck. 24" of snow fell off the shop and onto my hood and bent in so it has a big crease down the middle. I found a new hood and painted it and finally got it installed. The gaps are ok, not perfect but the passenger side won't drop down all the way to level it with the fender. The drivers side is fine. I removed the rubber stop but that wasn't holding it up. I can push down on it and get it close but it goes back up when I drive. It barely touches the fender when I push it down as far as I can.

Is there an adjustment I can make to get it to lay down right? I tried greasing the hinge but that hasn't helped.

You need to bring the hood latch down.

I tried moving the latch down and it is a far as it will go. Off course the wiper motor and AC hoses are in the way of getting it off easily.

Most of the time when the hood doesn't sit correctly and you have exhausted all the adjustments you can, it then tends to be worn out hinges. If you can basically push down the corner having the problem and everything lines up correct but after driving or opening the hood and closing it again, it sit high until you push down, about 100% the hinges have enough play in them from wear.

Replace the hinges, readjust and you should be fine after that.

I tried shimming the front of the hinge per the recommendations from the thread below (64 Impala) but it didn't work so it looks like its time for a new hinge.
