alright gentlemen here's my problem... i have a 72 chevy 1/2ton P/U, and i am debating what engine i want to use... my goal is 800HP to the wheels off of pump gasoline... and im not sure what block i want to use... so if anyone has any good ideas by all means my ears are all yours!!!! thanx- Knight
That would be insane. 800 hp to the wheels with pump gas would be quite a feat. I hope you're thinking BIG, like 540 or bigger. If you do that you might want to look into a block from Dart or World Products. How about building a 632? You're gonna need some serious cubes to get that kind of power with pump gas but it would be damn cool if you could pull it off.
You're gonna need to do some serious upgrades to that factory 72 frame to handle that kind of power too. The frame on my Blazer, also a 72, flexes a lot when Im out crawling around over stumps and rocks and stuff like that, I can only imagine what 800 hp would do...
The TV show Trucks built an old Chevy that they called Project Copperhead, they put one of those ZZ572 crate engines in it. I hear it was a pretty wild ride. I never saw any of the episodes but my friend talked about it all the time.
800 horse on pump, is near impossible, when you realize it is going to cost over 15k. The GMPP ZZ572 720R is the race version, Hot Rod Magazine did a pump gas pass on the dyno, and made 740 somthing, 748 I think, this motor is 15K, and running it on pump gas is not recommended by GMPP and voids the warrenty. The second thing is the traction, those trailing arms or " Nascar Bars " will not hold up ( would need a full 4 link at least for that amount of HP ),, rear end would need replaced, nither will any store bought tranny ( ex: B&M, TCI, Monster ), custom everything. Not to mention 800 horse would be impossible to handle on the street. Unless you are making a drag truck, what is the use?

I need to repack mine and rotate the air in my tires before winter.
