72 ss wiring problem

I am working on a 72 malibu, changing the sweep dash to a ss style gagues. I have everything working except: When the lights are turned on and the dash lights come on, both dash blinker indicator lights are lit and blinkers wont work. FYI when the lights are off the blinker indicator's work correctly. Can anybody help.

Sounds like a bad ground. I would start there.

Where the harness connects to the cluster, that connector might be the same design, but the wires might not correspond correctly from one cluster to another.

I've seen this on GM trucks.

Ive thought of the ground, and all 3 are good, I jumped the short lead ground, and the long lead ground, and the headlight switch ground to a known ground and still no luck. I even reversed the long and short grounds with no luck As far as the connector, I bought this kit from ground up and they are suppose to be pretty good. I got the dash, cluster, harnesses and all gauges in the kit. I do know that the blinker wires are correct in the correct location in cluster connector. FYI i just changed the emergency flasher, but could not find a new emergency switch locally. Still no luck.

Turns out it was a ground issue with the rear cluster ground plate. I noticed that the supplied screws on 2 holes would not get tight which was causing the plate to leave a gap. I used 2 slightly larger screws and have mercy problem solved. I know there are many people converting their dash to an SS style from a sweep. I hope you read this, thanks for the input. I have also noticed several threads about the harness. Unless your an expert suck it up and purchase the motor harness and the under dash harness for a guage vehicle and be sure to mention to the manufacturer if it is points or elec. ign. and also mention transmission 300 or 400.
