73 10 bolt to a 68 chevelle?

Okay, so I finally tore up the weak 10 bolt rear end in my 68 malibu, its fixable but going to require new ring and pinion, bearings, and a new posi case, this is the problem, Right now I am hunting down a elusive 12 bolt to restore my velle to suersport status, but 12 bolt supply and demand in miami is scarce. I can score a 73 laguna rear assembly with decent gears and posi for a minimal sum but I know its slightly wider. It seems to have the same attachment pints at the center of the housing but im not sure of the rest. has anybody tried this swap or should I just leave the cinderblock stands on it while I scrape together a 12 bolt?

I dont have a clue but if u would measure the mounts and make sure they are the same then the only problem would be thats its wider but u can get offset rims. I have a 70 malibu that i took the rear end out of a 80 or so grand prix (some kind of car like that) and it bolted in just fine dont know if its wider or not becaus i have no comparisson.
good luck aron

I was told that there's a difference in the angle of the trailing arms between the '68-72 cars & the later ones.

I know the reverse, installing a '64-'72 rear in a '73-'77, requires custom lower control arms. There isn't a huge difference but enough that the stock arms don't quite line up. I think the uppers might interchange. Never tried it personally.

If thats the case then I could weld in the perches on the outer ends, But if its the angle of the center ones that are cast in place I would be stuck'. Any one know how much longer the 73 rear is??, ps that hippie and j.f.
