73 firebird rear decode help

Hey everyone I need some help figuring out what kind of rear end my moms firebird has.

Here are the codes I have found...
GZC 178 1
&
N 1235542 B

I'd like to know if it's a 8.2 or 8.5 is it a BOP or a standard GM rear?

GZ should be a 2.73 Rear Gear (Open).
N 1235542 B shows it being a 8.5 but don't hold me to that measure the rear cover and see what size it is should be like 11.250 for the 8.5.

The 8.5" 10-Bolt is a strong Rear.
Lots of upgrades available, 30-Spline Axles, Posi's, Soilid Pinion Spacer, Diff Girdle Cover.

I'm not going to build up this rear much at all just a refresher then a build. This is in a cruiser for my mom. Basically just going to find a good junk yard posi to replace the peg leg new axles and new gear set

Stay away from the Gov-Lock Diff, An Auburn or Eaton Posi will work well.

funny u should say that bout the gov loc. i have on in my 425 powered c10. last week i shreaded a thirty spline axle spinning on a icy hill. was doing around 30 when i started to spin, i let off and when th wheel speed got below the gov speed, it locked and snapped the axle on the dry. nothing wrong with the locker tho and i love it. works great and i do recomend them for responcible drivers

What I have planned for the rear is 3.08s decent axles undecided on brand and I am leaning towards 30 spline. and either a junk yard posi if I can find one or an eaton.
