75 truck with 700r4

Hi everyone I need some help. I installed a 700r4 into my 75 gmc 2wd long box truck. The tranny is a '89, I was wondering if I could get the 2 driveshafts off of 88-92 longbox truck? Would they be the same length between the 2 trucks?

Thanks Caleb.

Pretty sure both trucks have a 131" WB, but----the engine trans in the 88+ are set back farther than the earlier trucks.
(Appears that way to me anyway)
Not very likely that the centerbearing would be in the right spot either.

You might be better off just having the right slipyoke installed onto your front shaft after making sure of the lengthe to be removed.

Another option is to go with a 1-piece shaft
If the new trans is the same length as a long 350 or longer, a 1-piece shaft will be fine.

My 79 came new with an Auto trans-----when I put the 4-spd in, that trans was short enough to require a 2-piece shaft. I just used the shaft from a 3/4 ton and put one of those multi-size u-joints on the rear.

26yrs later---still working just fine (3rd and final auto tossed in the trash at 4yrs ownership)

howdy there,

yes 88-up is different design and wheel base, etc.,
so nope..

totally different chassis and everything after 87,
completely redesigned

you need a very common driveshaft though,

one that is 74" from end of trans back to the pinion yoke and is the single most common shaft length under the '73-87 2wd trucks because it is the same as the th350 ones of which was the most common auto trans ever put into gm trucks since the th350 came out in 1969(for everything except 68 vettes and some 68 camaros)

i have about 6 of these 74" shafts laying around and i am cutting one down 3" shorter right now so i can use my 1987 2wd pickup 3L80HD trans in my '78 c-10 longfleet bonanza pickup(3L80HD is '87-up only and is a th400 body with the 27 spline output and it is 3" longer than the 700r4 and 9" th350 trannies)
a local junkyard should have about 200 of this 74" '73-87 shaft length, and for dirt cheap,

lemme know if you need any more info

good luck
