750 holley carb

i was told that a 750 holleywas to big for a small block and was told to lower to 1 600 or 650 is this correct

It depends which 750 holley you are using, 750DP or 750VS, and wish small block you are putting in. Is it heavy car or light car, type of tranny and rear end. All this you have to take for the account for the right combination. I used a 750VS on my 307 and ran fine.

its a heavy car with no posy trac and its a 3310 with sec vac

Nothing wrong using a 750VS on a 350. It's fine. Just be sure the intake manifold is high rise and square bore type bolt pattern.
Be aware there are two version of 3310 780 an 750. 780 has a sec. metering block and 750 uses metering plate. The one with the metering plate is prefered carb for your use. 780 is will work fine. Not as responsive like the 750.

im not very familiar with carbs at all i can replace anything but wouldnt know how to tune them this is my first hotrod i do know it has sec vac but thats it so you think its ok to run it or would it be better to switch to a 600 or 650 performance wise

600VS will do great. Not 600DP or 650DP. I was you I will put the carb you got. BTW: the carb you got is a 750. If the car feel sluggish or hesitates then a 600VS will be better off. It no big deal tunning a carb.

No different adjusting a 2 barrel or 4 barrel. Just make sure the timing is set properly, then adjust it for the best idle. Good luck
