76 GMC short bed 4x4 which tranny to use
 

I have a 76 GMC short bed 4x4 with a built 350 out of a Vet, some are telling me to put a short shift kit in my manual tranny and others are telling me go with an automatic ???

Depends on what you want. Short throw shifter doesn't even exist for the SM-465 your truck has. If it's an offroad rig, you probably like that really low 1st gear. If you don't like to shift, get an auto. That SM-465 will take just about any abuse you give it.

If you want an Auto, a 87-92/93 TH700R4 is a good choice.
Has a low 3.06 1st gear for take off + .70 OD/4th gear for MPG.
