77 chevy engine temperature sensor location???
Hey everyone, i got a question...I have looked through books, manuals, searched EVERYWHERE online and i just can NOT seem to find where the engine temperature sensor/wire is on the engine! I have a 1977 GMC truck with the 400 CI engine. The temperature guage does not show any reading of the engine temperature and i dont know where the wire hooks up to...(if it is a wire). My friend was looking at it one time and he pulled off a wire and i asked him what it went to and he said "i dunno, it wasnt hooked up so i didnt think you needed it." And im kinda guessing that THAT was the wire. I can hook another one up but i have no idea where to hook it up to. I have noticed if i am looking under the header on the right side of the engine by the steering shaft portion, that there is a little...pointy object sticking off of the block. Could this be it?? Let me know guys! I appreciate it! Also what is the operating temperature for this engine?

It should be under the ex. manafold on the left side, which by the way is the side the steering shaft is on. Does the little pointy thing look like a wire would plug on it? Should be a spade or a round peg. Most temp wires are d green. hth.

Thanks troy-curt, Yes the little pointy thing looks like a wire should connect some way onto it. Its like a little round peg looking thing. Also, If i were to run a wire from there, where would i route it to? Im thinking its somewhere on the fuse block? Let me know! Thanks

If there isn`t any wire there at all, You`ll half to have a shop manual. you should be able to find where the old wire was broke or cut if not you will need a wireing diagram (manual). hth.
