78 Buick Skylark

i have 77 6cyl nova, i am coming into possession of a 78 skylark, they look like they have the same chassis, so i was wondering if the drivetrain would fit into my car, it would be alot easier to use that drivetrain than to go lookig for a trans driveshaft and rear end that would support my smallblock

the skylarks for that year mostly used chevy power train, so everthing should work unless it has a pontiac or buick engine then you would have too change engine mounts and the wire harness and maybe drive shaft if has a th400 and exhaust system

The nova and the skylark should be the same in terms of driveline components and suspentions.

They are both X-bodies.

If the rear ends are the same (7.5" or 8.5"), everything should bolt up, as the 78 Skylark is just a Nova clone. I also have one of each. The Buick does have noticeably softer springs and much more padding under the carpet. My 77 6-cyl. Nova has the 7.5" rear end, while my Skylark (305) has the 8.5", which needs a shorter driveshaft (around an inch, I think). Both have T-350 trannys.

Yes. Here's a picture of a 7.5 & an 8.5 side by side: http://malibunorth.freeservers.com/RearID.html . Look at the projections on the bottom of the case at the 5:00 & 7:00 positions. If the Buick has the 8.5, just use the Buick driveshaft. I think Skylarks only came with V8's, so it should be the big one. Now for the bad news. 305 automatics like mine came with a 2.41 rear gear , so be forewarned. Good excuse for a new posi, right?

I would like to know if you like to sell th edriveshaft out of the 78 Buick Skylark for a resonable price...I have one, had 2 and ripped the custom made one out and ****ed it up..so I had to use the other one..ony how I sold it ..but I still need a shaft for the other one.. If not do you know some one who has one out of a buick..same year/style or a 75-79 nova they are the same chassy and x-frame so I figurre the driveshaft may work..
