78 camaro 350 trans with 427

Hey Guys, I want to use a stock 1969 427 in a 78 camaro that has a stock 350 transmission and 308 rearend. Will they hold up and what kind of performance can I except. Thanks for the help.

no problem

There should be no problem. The rear end will hold up as long as it doesn't hook. Slicks would be a definite no-no. Tranny weak link will be the front sprag. Adding a tranny cooler may help.

From what I can remember GM always put a TH-400 behind a big block.
Sure a TH-350 can survive in the same place, especially with minimal care.
The rest of what you are asking "what can I expect", I would bet the farm on it giving you a big grin, especially if you had driven it with the original engine much.

my philosophy

Don't fix it til it's broke. When, and it probably will break. Fix it with some beefed up parts. Better brand name friction plates. Hardened sprag. Good convertor with balooning plates. You may get a year or more out of the tranny.

I would use the TH350. It WILL hold up fine to a BBC but I would install a TransGo reprogramming kit to dual feed the direct clutches with the BB torque.
It will also firm up the shifts. Probably double the life of the trans....

308 rearend

Thanks for all the suggestions. Is there away to make a 3:08 rearend perform better, or should I just try and find a 3:73. I also want to use this car as a daily driver.
