If you can find a G-body that originally had a diesel engine, That would have the 8.5" and would be a direct bolt in (open diff 2.73 or lower geared). You can put a lot more to a stock 7.5" than people are willing to admit to. I have friends in the 12's on a 7.5". You use good parts and you can go a long way. I think that the B-body has a wider width drum to drum, and you can find a 9"out of an older fullsize ford. As soon as you go with a different diff, you run into width problems. Happy hunting!
