79 3.3 rear main seal etc

So i am pulling a 3.3 out of a 79 Monte Carlo to drill out a broken starter bolt. While i am there i am going to replace the rear main seal, pan gasket, probalby the valve cover gaskets too.

The seal is leaking so bad its keeping the rear of the motor clean. 190,000+ miles.

Why am i doing this to the red headed stepchild of motors you may ask? I am building a 350 to stick in it, just gonna get it drivable again untill the engine is done.

Since this is the red headed stepchild of engines, any weird oddness i should be aware of?

Should i just pull the main caps and lift the crank a bit to get to the upper seal, seems the easiest since the engine will be out.

take the rear cap off and put a small bottle jack , set jack on upper trans bolt up and jack the crank by hand till you get good resistance , i use a butter knife bent like crank journal and push the seal out and around enough to finger roll it out the rest of the way
put new in turning it . i clean mine good and glue mine together with that crazy glue .
put light silicone were main cap sits on block too near seal .
