79 Buick Lesabre
For various reasons I am out of the car-race business for a time, for this summer my driver has been a Geo Prizem... nice, fuel efficient, and SLOW... now I'm looking at a 79 LeSabre... it came with a 305, that much I know. The previos owner had a series of engines in it including a 396 and a 307 Olds... Presently it has a 400 in it according to the owner... I have always been a ford guy, but this is a good deal... now, my question... how the heck do i tell if its a bellybutten 400 or a pontiac 400?

Pontiac fuel pump is on the driver's side. Also may have displacement cast into the block near the fuel pump. And may also have leaves, squirrel nuts, etc., visible underneath the intake.
