79' Camaro no spark

Hi, i have a 79' 350 Camaro that i just finished putting a new motor in and i cant for the life of me ( witch doesn't mean much) get spark from the distributor. it has power and ground ( i have tested both) but still nothing. this distributor should be fine i bulled it off my blown motor and it had only 20 min of run-time on it ( brand new same day that the motor went ) any one have any ideas where to start narrowing down the problem?

Make sure the power wire is suppling power, turn the ignition switch to the on position and check it with a meter. If that checks out okay then it could be the coil, the module, or the pickup coil. Check the 3 wires from the distributor to the cap, make sure none of them are broken.

i traced the power wire all the way to the HEI's coil and there it stops. none of the wires are broken that was the first thing i checked i have a spare module, i will put it in and see what happens.

just a HEI distributor no MSD and i have tested the spark by just plugging another spark plug in to the spark plug wire and i also have an in-line spark tester and also by timing light.

You're grounding the plug when checking for spark, yes?

Are you using a meter??

Glad you figured it out. I was going to suggest checking for 12V while CRANKING (not just in the "on" position).

Somewhere around 10 initial should get you going. I like my marshmallows lightly browned, not burned. Thx...
