79 chevy 4x4 convert to lowered 2x4
 
so i need some help
my truck is lifted its huge. i want to turn it into a 2 wheel drive, lower and bagg it. i know the norm would be to buy a 2 wheel drive. but my truck has a perfect body no dents no rust. all matching numbers and 39,000 original miles. im no mechanic but i if i can take it apart i can put it back together, iv done some research but i need some one with knowledge to show me where to start. what is the first step and what parts do i need to acheive my goal

This is not a change I would recommend. Its a lot of work, and the truck is worth less when you get done than when you started.

You need a donor truck (73-80) with the full front 2WD suspension and steering linkage, and a replacement 2WD transmission and driveshaft. The rear suspension will be the same on 2WD and 4WD, so you just swap out whatever it takes to lower it.

I think I'd start with the 2WD conversion by pulling out the transfer case and 4WD trans, and swapping it to 2WD. Then go back and pull out the front axle and suspension, and move all the 2WD front suspension and steering linkage over from one truck to the other. You may have to drill some new mounting holes in the front frame, since I'm not sure 4WD frames have holes for the 2WD components.

I would find a 2wd frame and swap the body over.

You are planning on using a 4 link in the rear, changing spindles, and control arms?

Depending on the condition of the frame and type of lift components it probley worth a pretty good buck atleast in the midwest.

two wheel and 4-wheel frames are different up front.
There is a difference in the 'kick-up' for the front suspension.
Also--the rear suspension is the same as far as springs go (4x4 and heavy duty 2x4), but the rear spring hangers are big time different.

Full frame change would be the easiest route in my opinion.
At least going to a 2-wheel drive from a 4x4 there would be no
floor cutting in the cab.------4x4 cab floors are different than 2-wheel drive cabs
