As far as the hood goes i was thinking of doing a 98 front end conversion anyway so getting a different style hood would be no problem

decide what you want the engine to do? If the hood is not a problem the we can choose a taller manifold than what fits under our stock hoods.
when I say what the engine is supposed to do: fun to drive around corners with a little better acceleration, drag and street perky, like low 14s with decent mileage,13s and fair idle but cam is ok,12s so as to keep up with newer vettes. Quiet so the wife can drive it?budget?

Those cylinder heads are the worst SBC heads known to man.

Get different heads. The rest is not that hard.
