79 Kawasaki update.
I took the Kaw to a friends who is good on bikes and he figured out that the coil packs were the wrong ones, so he got a set of good used ones and it fired right up. Ithad a little gas leak around the bowl but has since stopped.
It seems to run pretty good, but its tempermental. At times it gives me grief and dont want to idle right and cuts out some, but other times it runs great??? Im gonna change the points n plugs to see what happens. Im driving it normaly, but my (crazy) stepdad took it out the other day to blow some carbon out like I asked him to. He came back and I asked him how it ran? He said I let off at 140! Nuts! Anyway, I have 230 bucks in it, but after I sell the accel coil packs it will be less. Not bad for a couple hundred huh? Hg well I got the title switched and bought the tags for it. |

QUOTE] Cool! The kawwies don't even start breathing properly til the rpms hit around 4500. I still remember my first ride on a 900 in 1977, scared the crap out of me, I wasn't expecting the torque turn-on at the rpms. Dang near slid off the back off the bike, didn't have a good grip on the handlebars. |

Fitzwell, If memory serves, back in the day, they used to take a 900/1000 Z-1 motor and trans and fit it to a 650 KZ or SR frame. Its a lot lighter than the stock 1000 KZ or LTD model. Everything fits. Just turn the key and hang on. batstar70

In 1978, I purchased the first Kawasaki Z1R in the state of Colorado-loved it....until a friend bought a Z1R Turbo! Kicked my pants! I hated that guy after that, sold the Bike and bought a new Harley (yeah, I know
)-My Brother-in-law bought a new Kawasaki 650 (standard model)-put a big bore (748? cc) kit in it, stripped it down and went drag racing. It was pretty fast....until he got some serious bite at Bandimere Speedway, wheelied and stepped off-tumble, tumble, tumble down the Track. It was fun to watch though- Last edited by 35WINDOW; 05-18-2006 at 04:05 PM. |
