Have you considered the 8.5 inch axle, they are much easier to find and cheaper to aquire.

From the information you described about your engine/trans combo, you should have no problems with the 8.5 axle holding up to what you are intending on doing with it.

Anything you can find for the 8.2 or 12-bolt can just as easily be found for the 8.5 maybe even cheaper as there are so many out there and it is still in production.

thanks.. was also wondering if i just purchased this kit : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...&category=33731
if it would hold up for mild strip abuse and if it would be worth the investment in the 8.2 i already have in the car. not sure on how the good the eaton posi units are.. was also considering the powertrax noslip unit if it ended up being easier and better just to upgrade the 8.2.

Not a bad deal, they are asking $628.97.

For reference I will give this kits cost as shipped to me by one of my suppliers (before my mark-up, installation rate, and sales tax).
For everything including the axleshaft bearings, seals, gear oil, and posi additive my supplier would charge me $725.58, I can also shop around on the internet and find mix-and-match pricing much cheaper, but that would probably only get me around the price of that auction.
