8" and 9" drum brakes

Will the backing plates off a 8" ford fit on a 9" ford rear end?

Some will....most will not.....

The 8" comes with a 2 and 53/64" OD rear wheel bearing.

Some 9" Fords do also.

The larger 3 and 5/32" OD rear wheel bearing is very common in the 9". And then there is the 'Torino' style.

Like Deuce said, depends on the rears. You can see in the attached picture that I simply left my backing plates hanging when I swapped out my 8inch for a 9inch rear. Mine worked out no problem, I even used the axles out of my old 8inch rear in the 9inch rear as they were the same.
