8" Ford Rear & Brakes

Hi,
I need to replace the rear drums and shoes on my '31 A Coupe, but am having trouble determining what the rear is out of.

I have identified it as an 8" ford rear. It has 11" x 2" drums, with 5 x 4-1/2" bolt pattern, and 2-7/16" center hole.

The rear measures 57-1/2" flange to flange, and 52-1/2" backing plate to backing plate. The only identifying numbers on the carrier are 6-68, (or, if upside down) 89-9. There are no numbers on the axle housing, but the axles flanges say AB 35B. The drums are stamped 9 x 48 KH, FOMOCO KH (right side), and KH 726 B (left side), and the backing plates are stamped Bendix 305489-L.

The rear housing has a drain plug on the bottom, and the carrier has a fill plug on the driver's side.

Any help or suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

Woody

Those are Kelsey-Hayes I.D. Nos. Any large parts jobber should be able to convert them.

Duke is correct.

I am not aware of any 8 inch Ford rear that came with 11 inch brakes.

I would compare the shoes to the 57 Ford factory items. Most Fords are similar for many years.
