8" maverick differential makes a bang shifting from drive to reverse

Hi
My 36 Ford with 350 chevy engine and a 350 turbo trans and 8" maverick rear end makes a loud bang when shifting from drive to reverse. It does not make a noise when shifting from reverse to drive. Help!!

A bad "U" joint will make a banging or thud type noise when the driveshaft changes directions. Sometimes its just one way and sometimes both, depends on how bad and exactly what the problem with the "U" joint is. What you describe doesn't sound like a rear end problem.
