80' Monte with 3.8L turbo?

Hey! I've come across a 1980 Monte Carlo with a factory V6 turbo that can be bought fairly cheap. Not sure if the car is worth the money or not. Can anyone tell me how to find out how many factory turbo cars where produced in 80?
Thanks!
Peg

they're pretty gutless, and aren't worth all that much... they aren't anything like the Grand Nationals.

for some performance ideas, check out:

g-body site somewhere may know

i have the 229 engine in an 84 impala its pretty quick actually faster than my 305 caprices in the past have been, at least off the line anyways

you can find good deals on aftermarket intakes, and headers for these, eBay and such,
although IMHO isnt really worth it
the 229 is just like the 200 and 4.3L v-6 engines, same deal

good luck

I'm not sure if you could get a V6 turbo motor in a '80 Monte Carlo. I thought it was a Buick thing.

I would believe that the 3.8 V6 is quicker off the line than a Monte with the 267. I have a 85 Regal with the V6 and my Mom's 81 Monte with the 267. I'd rather drive my Regal. It seems to have a bit more bite and snap off the line.

Thanks guys! I didn't remember MC's ever having a turbo either so I had to do a little research before I believed that this was a factory car but it turns out that it is. The turbo was apparently only available in 80' & 81' and it IS a Buick motor......right out of the Flint plant, if the sales brochure I found today is to be believed. Nothing like the GN turbos though, I'm sure.
The car is in pretty good shape mechanically. Runs nice but I haven't really gone over it closely yet. The body needs some work and the interior is pretty rough but it might make a decent daily driver with a little TLC. Would get pretty good gas mileage at least.... And yeah, that little V6 did haze the tires better than I expected it to.

I had one until 1999, I sold the car but still have the turbo engine. I never tried to find how many were built, at one time I had two of them, I kept the best one and parted out the other. One of the two had a aluminum hood and deck lid, I kept those for the one I kept.
The engine is a Buick 3.8L same as was used in the early turbo Buicks, they were not the best performers until Buick fuel injected them. I had put alot of money into mine, I sent the carb and turbo to CA. to have them rebuilt, and they worked on the waste gate to increase boost, factory I believe they had 6lbs, after I got mine back it would make 12lbs of boost. Forged pistons, Kenne Bell cam, ported heads and intake and with some help adapted factory headers. Swapped in a 200-4R and a 3.73 posi. I drove it several years that way then eventually swapped the 3.8 for a 355.
