80 Mustang question

I have a 80 Mustang question.

is a 80 Mustang factory straight 6cylinder with 4 lug wheels worth investing the money to do a small block ford V8 swap ? if not I will prob sell it.

this was my father in laws. its a 80 mustang hatchback straight 6 auto with 4 lug wheels no a/c just a plane jane, runs real good, the dash and door panels have been sun eaten/beaten, but it has a real nice set of bucket seats, no tears nada (i'm not sure if there original or not). the body is as near as perfect as you can find. no dents no rust ect. he passed away in jan in st pete fl. we went down (from Nebraska) and took care of his affairs and belongings. for a $230 u haul tow dolly I had to drag it home. I see this style of mustang on the drag strip a lot. is it worth changing over to 5 lug wheels and putting decent rearend in it and a V8 in it ? I thought about a 5.0 swap to.

Dont know how much work to swap engines, but the later 5.0 litre Mustangs also had the 4 lug suspension, so thst isn't a concern.

thanks, I guess I did know that after you said it

would still like to know how big a deal a V8 in place of the straight V6 would be.

The I-6 cars use a different front end K-member from the 4's & V-8's.

If it has that little-bitty rear end that some of those cars had (8-bolt cover, I believe), I'd swap it for an 8.8", or a 7.5" if you don't intend to beat on it too terribly hard.

The early-'80s Mustangs were famous for the floorpan cracking under the driver's seat. I haven't heard of anybody falling through yet, but it's something to think about.
