81 regal swap... th200r4 to a th350

I was wondering if I needed a new drive shaft if the length of the th200 trannys and th350 trannys are different or if the tail shafts are different. Im dropping in a sbc 350 soon and just trying to figure out all that I need. Thanks for the help

The TH2004R & TH350 are basically the same length and have the same 27-spline Output Shaft. Driveshaft will work.
You will need a Crossmember from a 78-88 G-Body that came with a TH200/200C or TH350/350C Trans.
Line From Intake Manifold to the Vacuum Modulator.
Detent Cable for Passing Gear if wanted.

DETENT CABLE -IS- necessary

Since Chris asked the question, and you posted DETENT as optional, i'll address it here.
Gentlemen, Since i posted a detailed explanation about modulators and line boost, some may be assuming that detent is only for passing gear. This is not correct. A functioning detent cable IS NECESSARY. Here's why:
Without detent, full throttle kickdown is not available. All you will have is part throttle, or "modulated" downshifts via vacuum drop. So, any time you floorboard the peddle and under normal conditions would have kickdown, you will now overload clutches, since you are not using GEARING to do the work of acceleration. In addition, the detent circuit provides additional line boost at high throttle, so now you are more heavily loading the clutches without achieving maximum BOOST.
Detent boost is handy information to know. The 350 detent is cable, and so its easy to feel if it is connected and moving the detent valve. But in a THM400 detent is electrical, so if a 400 looses passing gear i install a pressure gauge on line tap (driver side front above linkage) and put 12v to the external detent solenoid connector and watch to see a 35 psi boost on the gauge. if no boost, the solenoid is not working!

Line Boost With Detent

Oh, i forgot to mention...
the additional 35psi boost at detent is extra important because on both THM350 and THM400 trans governor oil is directed to the large land on the modulator valve. This is done to provide pressure "cutback" (a gradual reduction of line pressure at higher speeds) at "cruise". This means that vacuum drop is far less effective for boosting line at hi speed. So you see, you can be at full throttle 3rd gear at 50mph with under 100 psi.

RUH ROH... not a good thing.

Thanks guys. What about headers, motor mounts, and the tranny cooler lines will they match up with the stock radiator. If it helps it came stock with the 231 stock non turbo motor. Maybe I should post this in the engine part of the forum for help?
