82 chevy camaro z-28 tranny question

ok i have a 82 chevy camaro z-28 with a mild 350, right now i have th-350 bolted to it and am not sure if it is acting right, i can hear it shifting through the 3 gears but at 55 (roughly) it feels like i am having to make the motor work to keep it at a steady speed, i let off the gas and it wants to drop speed quickly, its running at 2500@55 , but it feels like i'm pulling something, i'm pretty sure it has 3.73 gears in the rear end, do you think i need to change the gears in the rear end , if so what gears would make for good cruising,,, or should i change to a 4 speed tranny, if so what tranny would make for a good cruiser, i'm not looking to race ,mainly street, ok so maybe every once in a while take out a rice burner....

second question has anybody every tried putting a 5 speed standard in an automatic car, if so is it very difficult?

thanks in advance
