83 jimmy fullsize won't stay in 4x4 high

i went out on a poker run in az and when i would put the trans case in 4hi it would engage and then would pop out during any rough patches. my copilot would hold the shifter in place for certain rough climbing and this would work but how do i remedy for the long haul?

i dont know much about transmissions, but you have an older truck simmilar to mine (1980 k-10), and my transfer case linkage is worn out, one time the linkage got stuck between neutral and 2wd high. cuase a lot of problems.

i would start with the linkage.

good luck
