84 vette not sure on transmission
Thanks for the help, when I was having problem with flexplate being hard to
turn eariler I did not have trans. level or motor mount on, I now have everything hooked up and it cranked over just fine. Here's photo showing between toque contevter and trans. there is no telling whats has been done to this car before I got it. It looks like a project that was given up on I don't believe anything is original, a mechanic said he thought i had a 6cl. it orginally in car I'm tired if its messed up I'll need to go trans. shop

84 vette
I put engine and transmission back in vette car will not move any gear
so I have backed off the transmission from bell housing pulled toque converter off trans. very hard to get torque all the way back in trans. it has a small section of the shaft that is shinny between torque converter and trans. does that mean it still needs to go back more and I have not heard 2 clicks like everyone says, torque converter still turns but a little harder to turn. Also a vacum line is hooked up modulator another vacuum with a small canister that I don't know where it goes somewhere on driver side. THANk IN ADVANCE!

Bob,
IIRC from another thread, you've already had this together and running, right? I'm hoping you didn't force the mounting of the trans-to-block using the bolts. If that was the case, the pump has most likely been trashed. When installing the converter into the trans, there should be 3 distinct "clicks", and with each, there should be some notable rearward movement. For a quick test, you can measure the distance from the block face to the outer edge of the flexplate and subtract that from the distance from the trans mounting face to the converter pads. This should give you 1/8" to 3/16". If the 1st dimension is more that the 2nd, your converter is not seated correctly. Russ |

Does anyone know or suggest how to get bolts from bell housing to engine
it's very close to firewall about 2 inches, special tool or anything short of drilling holes in firewall or pulling engine forward or removal. Thanks! |

84 vette
I now have all trans. and starter problems fixad with everyone's help THANKS TO ALL! I think I now have a rear end problem, the vette was sitting on the driveway at home with a slight slope, we were trying to push it inside
garage and the posi-track seemed to lock up. We stopped trying and a few days later it freed up on its own. The trans. was in neutral and no emergency brake was on or anything different from the lock up problem a few days later it rolled right in garage no problem. I had the vette up 1-2 feet up in the garage on blocks front wheels about 2 ft. up, rear about 1 foot up for 1-2 weeks. The engine was in the car, no trans. no drive shaft in the vette. I had talked to transmission masters (local shop 2 miles away) When they came to pick up the vette the posi-track 0n or rear end was locked up again. We checked everything we could think of with no luck, we then hooked up a chain to my PU and pulled it in to the street the guys said it was making thumping sound while it was being pulled out of the garage and I could hear it when it was being winched on to the trailer so it had something to do with the posi-track or rear end the wheels were rolling ok we think. A last thought .when I had both rear wheels on jack stands the garage I could roll the rear wheels by hand to get to the U-joint bolts. Please advise I am lost as what is going on. saltbob |

Bob I'd suggest reposting this as a new 'thread' with a more accurate title than '84 vette' perhaps 'rear diff on 84 vette seems to lock up at random'
Then reiterate that the car has a non-factory installed TH350. Simple dumb question, are the disc brakes on the back locked up |

I merged them into one thread since he is on the same car, with updates.. Other wise we end up with a dozen threads with same exact title

oh, I agree with you. SaltBOB needs to expand the thread titles past the "84 Vette" I suggested this to him weeks ago
