No way will a 390 fit w/out tower mod. The T-bolts, as has been said, were special productions. I have a 302 in mine now but have a 351W I've rebuilt on the eng. stand I will be putting in soon. I did the shock tower mod and unless you were a Ford diehard you would not know it. Even w the mod it will be tight for the headers. Also I tip the scale at 2900 lbs-not near the weight of say a 57 chibie. Also there is no replacement for displacement.

Fairlane Dude, You can get a 351w in w/stock manifolds, but plug r&r will be tight. It's a tall engine, so if you're usimg a hi-rise manifold, you could have hood clearance problems. If you are planning a thunderbolt retro, the teardrop hood will give you plenty of clearance. The 351w is a great motor. It has a good bottom end. A cam and 4bbl will wake it up. Look for '74 and older 351w heads. They have bigger valves, smaller chambers, better ports, and will make a big difference in performance. The only trick to the bolt on is the head bolts. 1/2" vs 7/16". If you dont want to drill and tap your block for 1/2" bolts, you can get 7/16" bolts with a 1/2" head shank and the heads bolt right up.

Sorry it took so long to reply dude. College and a family doesn't leave alot of free time. ..I've seen the swap done and the only tower mods I know of were to make room for headers. Even then I believe it amounted to a 2lb hammer and just the right amount of patience and accuracy. I'll look for some pics
