85 camaro 700r4 to th350

I have a 1985 camaro Z28. I'm dropping a 383 in it and was told my 700r4 isn't "good enough". I'm wanting to put a th350 in it the easiest/cheapest way i can but still make it sturdy. Is there some kind of spacer i can ad to a th350 (3 or so inches) so i dont have to get a shortened driveshaft? Or can i change the output shaft and whatnot on my 700r4 and put it on my th350? thanks, drew

on what you`ll spend to add the TH350, I would just get the 700 rebuilt with upgraded parts. the 700 has a lower first gear for better hole shots and the overdrive for a much pleasant cruise without the annoying high RPM exhaust drone that will drive you nuts. you`ll have to get a painless wiring kit or the like to keep the lock up function. I`m sure you could look in the knowledge base on this site and find more info, or someone else here will tell you what upgrades the 700 would need.

If you are going to be making enough power to hurt a 700R4, then you might as well just go to the TH400. I have a kit for the TH400 that allows a direct bolt in swap. It does exactly what you are talking about, correcting the length and mounting location.

Email me if you need details.

I agree, beef up the 700 and have the best of both worlds. In top form it can pretty much handle as much as a 350 and get better mileage, and quicker launches with it's overdrive and lower, low gear ratio. The sunshell and 3-4 clutch seem to be the weakest links in the trans, but there is upgrades for them as well as the gears.(planets)

If you must have a 350, choose one from an late 70's early 80's truck, depending on whether or not you want L/U. They have the 9 inch ext. hsg. and output shaft that you need to re-use your original drive shaft. You will have to relocate your crossmember though.

Cool

You will also need the kit to relocate the torque arm mount at the tranny if you go the T-350 or 400 tranny.

That is the arm that runs along side the drive shaft from the rearend.

I would have the 700 built correctly and drive the car.

ya I second that keep the 700 they can be built very strong and you will be happier with it than the 350, not that there is anything wrong with a turbo 350 but going to it would be a big step backwards.
