'85 Chevy El Caminos - Brake Problems?

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if 1985 Chevy El Caminos have unique brake problems? Like sticking? I know someone whose brakes stuck and because the engine was revved so loudly, it attracted a cop's attention who ticketed him for street racing. I am trying to research '85 El Caminos to find out if brake problems are common with them.

Thanks!

Margie

Welcome to Hotrodders. I know of no brake problems with the El Camino's. You should put that question in the proper forum for brakes and you will get better response. Maybe someone else knows something about them that I don't. Enjoy the site.

Welcome. I never heard of any problems with those brakes. That car shares chassis with several other GM models so if they were bad, all models would suffer. I'll move this to the proper forum.

An 85 el camino is a G body. It will have the same brakes as 78-86 regal, monte carlo, malibu, grand prix, grand national, cutlass. I don't think these cars have any abnormal brake issues. The front disks are a little small for racing, but they can be upgraded, and if it's just a daily driver the brakes are good enough. It'll just come down to how well that particular car was maintained.

The brakes "stuck" and the engine was "revving"? Sounds like someone was trying to do a burnout to me. The brake setup on the G bodies also share some of the same parts as the S10,Camaro,TransAm etc....they are VERY reliable and easy to work on and maintain.
This "someone" wouldn't happen to be your son would it? Also was this "someone" trying to use this story as a way to get out of some trouble?
Just curious.
Later,
WEIMER

I haven't had any problems with my '86 El Camino. I would check to see if the pads and shoes don't have some contaminant on them. I had a leaky axle seal on my '72 El Camino which did cause that one to stick.
