85 vette

are you removing the 700 r4? or a standard transmission? why are you removing either in favor of a 350 transmission?

yea it has a 700r4 in it rite now but i just rebuilt the motor >400 hp and i can get it to slip alot and the shifts are getting softer and softer.....especially after hard driving and burnouts.... i want a th350 because in my experience they can be built much stronger and more reliably for a low price than 700r4....and im not concerned with fuel economy because i only get like 5 mpg now with my holley 650 double pumper

Are you familiar with corvetteforum.com? There is a specific C4 section with a lot of knowledge. Try it.

Here's the link:

BTW, did you upgrade the rear?

Sounds like fun. But remember, even with a Dana44, your weak link is the universals on the half shafts.

vett

700 will NOT hold 700 horsepower regardless of what mad dog or any one else will tell you.700 will only hold 400 hp any more than that and parts break and clutch plate failure happens. yea I know the claims out there but on the board here you have Crosley and my self that have pictures on horse power related parts that break. you want over 400 horse power to hit the ground get something other than a 700.
It is only my opinion but the stock parts wont handle the stress and torque but I rebuild them and see what less than 300 horse power breaks.

they claim that the internals have been changed out i mean i originally thought that to that they would just com apart with that much horsepower but they say that all the weak internals have been replaced.... and i already replaced the u-joints on the half shafts with much stronger ones garenteed against breakage... what would you recommed for a transmisson?

I think a lot depends on how you intend to use the car. I have a 350/350 in my 38 coupe and I'm quite satisfied with it. It's not a radical motor, but it is built up. The only time I would prefer an overdrive trans is on a longer drive. And that's only to keep the engine revs down.

Here's another place to look for info on the 700R4:

yea the only reason i want to stay with a 700 is because the tailshaft that i have to use is not available for a th350 and there is a beam that is used instead of a tranny mount so i will need to extend this because of the shorter th350 ...maybe even elongate my driveshaft
